The Trikilis family wish you all a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!
Yes it's that time of year again - December, it's winter here so we are all
cooped up at home relaxing & keeping ourselves nice and warm after the end
of another busy summer season! Telendos and On The Rocks had a huge rise in
visitors this season! Also quite a few of the 'old' friends of Telendos and
OTR came out to visit us which was nice as it gave us a chance to catch up
on their news...
For those of you who couldn't visit us for whatever reason (don't worry we
understand!) it's time to get those flights booked nice and early for summer
2009! Please visit our new and updated website whenever you get a chance at www.otr.telendos.com to check for availability & get in contact with me ASAP
so that you can then arrange your flights. We will happily take care of the
rest for you, to ensure that you have a reliable, easy & enjoyable transfer
over to Telendos and to On The Rocks as we always make sure to do for you.
The temperature during the season was very pleasant with some days being a
little too windy for comfort! Kalymnos didn't get any rain at all this
season which was nice! However to make you feel a bit better the weather on
Kalymnos at the moment is cold & cloudy and the first rain drops have begun
to make their very definite first appearance!
Furthermore I will try to fill you in on the latest news & gossip from
Kalymnos, Telendos and OTR. Kalymnos Airport is still open and is still
being reliably flown in and out of which has helped things a little. There
is hope for 2 flights a day and maybe even 3 flights! Olympic Airlines seem
to still be in business so all is okay for now. The new road to Vathi is
finally complete! The left hand side of the Council Hall in Pothia -
Kalymnos where all the restaurants are situated is also progressing well and
should be completed by the new summer season. The Mayor of Kalymnos has
regained his health but unfortunately is still not really helping us out
with ongoing tourism issues and other major problems that we are facing.
Maybe he should consider an early retirement!
Now on the all important Telendos front. Our path and guide lights are still
not complete. Not much of a surprise really! The only bit of progress that
has been made is that 4 solar powered lights have been installed by the Sub
Prefecture of Kalymnos Ms. Hrysoula Syfouniou. We thank her very much! We
are hoping for a lot more projects to be carried out in the not too distant
future... The council is talking about continuing the path from the corner
of OTR to the Hotel Porto Potha which is definitely a project requiring
urgent attention. We haven't heard about any other major projects being
planned for Telendos as yet...
The new Hohlakas Sunset Studio did well. There was once again a great demand
for it, as the comfort standards are very high. Please make sure to get in
early if you would like to make a booking. The new chairs at OTR made a
difference along with the new lounge seats and the huge 52 inch Sony flat
screen HD TV! This is going to become our 'new best friend' for viewing big
sports events & other important screenings. Our free sun beds & umbrellas on
OTR beach were once again greatly appreciated. Our On The Rocks Water Sports
Section is growing, with 10 new Ocean Kayaks, 2 new canoes & a new Turbo
Peddle-O being added. Next season we will also be adding a few new sea toys
for our friends young & old alike. The team from 'Crossing Latitudes' whom
we have become great friends with made there usual stop off on Telendos to
visit us. What a great time we have every time they drop by! Cheers to all
of you!
The winner of the 2008 Telendian Paradise Beach Nude Backgammon
Championships was Karl Petter of Oslo, Norway! Mr Shelton has let down
England once again! There didn't seem to be a huge interest in the
competition this season for some reason. I think we need to come up with a
new challenge - possibly something a bit more daring... The Telendian
Festivals that were held by the Cultural Association of Telendos also went
very well. A lot more events are being planned for the summer season of
2009.
We all thought that the recently agreed 'taxi boat system' was going to help
the whole island of Telendos by docking (on a weekly rotational basis) at
each of our 4 wharves. These wharves being - the far left, the main, the new
right one and our new wharf. This would be a very fair solution for all the
businesses on Telendos. This would fairly disperse the visitors to all the
venues, resulting in business for all. Of coarse establishing this new
'ferry system' was a little confusing for all involved & even for us! The
Captains docked at every wharf each rotational week except at our wharf!
Could this be a Telendian scandal? We were not very happy with this outcome
& are looking into finding a quicksmart solution to deal with this problem.
On The Rocks will be celebrating its 15th Anniversary next season!!!
Therefore 2009 will be a season of surprises and events to look forward
to... We have re-started our Greek Nights & once again they were great fun!
With live traditional music and real traditional dancing! We shall be
continuing them again every Friday night and will then move onto Monday
nights as well. So get those dancing shoes out...
Our menu has also been given a complete overhaul so you will now have even
more delicious delights to choose from.
Our new team member Ms. Janet Garner added to the excellent service of On
The Rocks this season. We thank her for her hard work! OTR is the 'in place'
again for meeting friends old & new, for parties, Weddings, Baptisms and for
every other occasion in between. Steve & Lesley's wedding at OTR was a huge
success & a very magical night. It was an absolute fairytale Wedding! We
wish them a long & happy life together! We also held 'the very important
occasion' of the 1st Birthday party of our Telendian donkey 'Odysseas' that
took place at OTR with live music & of course a special birthday cake with a
carrot candle! What a fun & crazy night!
Now down to some family news - Sevasti my sister-in-law, (Poppi's sister)
had her 3rd baby girl & named her Irini. My sister Angela also had her 3rd
baby girl & named her Nicoletta. Poppi & I are both doing well and are
enjoying our long awaited rest in Kalymnos. Savvas is very well and has
grown into a very tall, handsome & intelligent little boy - even if I do say
so myself! He will be 4 on the 21st of December.
Time sure does fly by!
Savvas would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the gifts
you gave him and have sent to him & is looking forward to seeing you all
again next season.
All of us at On The Rocks Telendos (& especially Savvas) hope to see you
again in the near future. Take care and try to behave! Bye for now! We wish
you all a Merry Christmas & a very Happy New Year filled with love & good
health!
'Kala Hristougenna Kai Hronia Pola! '
