ON THE ROCKS TELENDOS NEWSLETTER 2004 - 05
Hello to everyone! It's winter and rest time for some of us and others not. Just to make you feel a little better it's raining and cold here on Kalymnos too. Although all of October was very nice and sunny as was the rest of the summer season's weather, a little wind here and there but all in all it was very sunny and hot. The Olympic Flame arrived on Kalymnos as planned and all went well, there were hundreds of people gathered around the port and council building were there was a huge ceremony and celebrations held. The Athens 2004 Olympic Games are over and with great success too, also us winning the European Soccer Championship and Greece being the best of all! Our season on the other hand on Kalymnos/Telendos was not too good this time round. So for those of you who did not visit, try and make it over next season and tell your friends to join you. Pass the word round that Telendos is the place to be and to holiday to. I will try and inform you a little about what's been going on and what will be happening for next season.
We hope this letter reaches you all in good health, which is the most important thing. My sister's baby little “Poppi” is doing well and able to walk and talk a little now. And Poppi's sister “Sevasti” has had a healthy baby girl which will be named “Elleni” of course. Talking about babies? We have had a healthy little boy! Yes, it's true we are parents and I'm a father. All went well and was born in Rhodes on the 21st of December at 09:35am and weighs 2.600gr. We are both very happy and thank God for his gift. A whole new life for us.. On The Rocks family is getting bigger! We missed you all who didn't visit and hope to see you in the very near future. This season we met a lot of nice people, friends old and new too.
All accommodation must up grade and apply with EU regulations, laws and also go through inspection and be graded 1,2,3 or 4 stars. On The Rocks Accommodation has been graded 3 stars by the Greek Organisation Of Tourism. So we are still the best and there is always something new and better being done to meet your satisfaction. Bookings have started so for those of you who are interested please could I have your dates for summer 2005 A.S.A.P! There has been more sand pumped out and a huge new sandy beach formed from On The Rocks Café to the Hotel Porto Potha which is great and will help out the other side of the island. The council has also spread out permanent buoys for yachts to tie onto for safer and easier docking for their visit on Telendos. The Council of Kalymnos has not kept their promise on many of their projects for Telendos so nothing new as yet. I shall not give up on them though! All we are asking for is a walk able path and lights along it! It's only been 20 years, I guess they need a little more time.. There might be good news on the airport of Kalymnos though, as they have started to work on it again and it should be ready by the summer of 2006, we shall see?
There have been a few activities held this summer. The Telendos - Massouri cross swimming Competition which took place on the 8/8/04. The 1st annual diving festival from the 5th to 12th of September. And the 2nd climbing festival from the 2nd to the 8th of October. All went well and helped the Island a little. But there must be a lot more done if we are to see people interested in coming back to Kalymnos. I do hope they get organised. We had the marriage of two friends from Australia, Nicole & Paul who celebrated their wedding with us, which was a excellent night and we wish them all the best in there new life together. And we have more bookings for 2005!
Another huge do of 50 accountants and other important people had a great time with us at OTR. We do our best to be the best. Not forgetting the champion Mr Karl Petter of Norway of the Telendos Paradise Nude Beach Backgammon Championships 2004, again! England not doing too well at all.. I think England should sack Mr Shelton and take on Mr Tony Russell!
I have no major projects for next season as I think the baby will take up most of our time. There will be free sun beds & umbrellas on the new On The Rocks Beach. A lot of new things have been added to our rooms and our menu will be even tastier.
