OTR Newsletter 2002
On the other we where not lucky enough to have the pleasure as God decided to take it away from us. Poppi & I are very disappointed and sad but will not give up and will be strong and have faith. We shall start again and God willing all will go well this time round. I would like to thank Penny, Michael, Brian, Elly and others for there support and help through the difficult period that we went through.
The fun continues organizing Birthdays, reunion
gatherings, fun nights, parties and of course our well known Greek Nights
every Monday & Friday nights. The winner of the 2002 Paradise Nude Beach
Backgammon Championship of Telendos is again, Mr Petter of Norway, hes
unbeatable! The outside Bar was a great success and the introduction of
Draught Amstel & Alfa Greek Beer went down well. There will be a few more
Beers brought in for next season. Also our new Menu was and will be tastier
than ever! Of course I never stop surprising you all, and there will be a few
more new changes to the premises to keep it number one for your choice for a
drink, snack, meal or just to relax and enjoy the view.
There was another surprise! We had Surprise
Chef all the way from Australia visit us. Aristos Papandroulakis in his
Surprise Chef show cooks a meal for a deserving member of the public, neatly
combining human interest and food with his warm, genial personality. Aristos
maternal great-grandfather, Emanuel Sofilas, was a fisherman who left Kalymnos
in 1912 in search of a new life in Bumbury near the city of Perth. But his
great-grandson had never visited the island of his forebears until now.
And Aristos is filming his visit to Kalymnos, On The Rocks Telendos and other
parts of Greece as part of a Surprise Chef special, combining travel and
cooking. An April day provided the perfect calm, sunny weather for the
crews journey to Telendos as a guests of mine at On the Rocks Restaurant.
On a table by the sea with a stunning backdrop of boats and mountains, Aristos
created the perfect dish. His great grandfathers recipe for Kakavia, a
mixture of fresh fish and vegetable soup so beloved of sponge divers. The show
went on air in early August. There will be photos put on our website soon. It
was fun and a great experience!
We won the Council Elections of October and a
new mayor was elected for Kalymnos. The new mayor is George Rousos. He is
young, talk able and full of new ideas for Kalymnos & Telendos. We shall
see better days now! As for the Kalymnian Air port, no go yet! Another
fourteen years, maybe? Good news though there is a sandy beach on Telendos!
Yes its true, we are helping to make it. It will start from the beginning
of the trees on your way towards Potha Beach all the way to the Hotel Porto
Potha. It will be one of the nicest beaches on Kalymnos & Telendos when
its finished!
All of us from OTR wish everyone a prosperous
2003 and hope to see you all in the near future.
